Liverpool John Moores University International Study Centre has added a new intake for you to begin your International Year One in Engineering in January 2021. There are also two new progression degrees. This new start date is designed for those who wish to start the second year of their chosen engineering degree at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in September 2021. We will get you to where you want to be.
The International Year One in Engineering is equivalent to the first year of undergraduate study. It is perfect if you need extra support with your academic and study skills and English language before progressing to the second year of an undergraduate degree at LJMU.
About the programme
The International Year One in Engineering is an intensive course equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree. Students will improve their English, study core and optional modules in electrical or mechanical engineering that are relevant to your progression degree. A full list of progression degrees can be found on our website here.
New progression degrees
As well as the new intake, the International Year One in Engineering now has two new progression degrees available:
- BEng Architectural Engineering
- BEng Mechatronics and Autonomous Systems.
By progressing to Architectural Engineering, you will benefit from a course that has been developed in partnership with practising professionals. You will gain the skills required to design complicated building engineering systems, as well as managing their installation, commissioning and maintenance.
If you choose to progress to Mechatronics and Autonomous systems, you will learn skills required to develop modern automation systems. Graduates will leave with a combination of electronic and mechanical skills, as well as the necessary software and hardware knowledge to succeed in your future career.
When does the course start?
The new intake will start on 18th of January 2021.
Will I study on-campus or virtually?
If you choose to join us in-centre you will benefit from our blended approach to teaching, which combines face to face and virtual learning classes in order to create the safest possible teaching environment (dependent on UK Government guidance).
If you choose to start your LJMU journey virtually, you can study virtually from the comfort of your home and join us on campus later, or continue studying your programme full-time at home. Studying online, you will benefit from virtual teacher-led learning with our experienced staff and a wide range of learning and social activities.
Our students’ safety and well-being are our highest priority, so to prepare for courses starting on campus we have introduced several precautionary measures in and around our buildings; routine cleaning regimes, one-way systems in busy areas and new rules for lifts, communal areas, toilets and learning spaces have been established. Hand sanitiser will be available in all buildings and there will be facilities for hand-washing across campus. Staff and students will be requested to wear a face-covering when inside a building unless exempt from this Government guidance.
For more information about how we are helping students transition to campus, please read our information on learning in the UK.
