International Study Centre

The LJMU International Study Centre, based in the heart of Liverpool, provides international and EU students with the opportunity to progress to a number of honours degrees at the University.

After starting the International Foundation Year or International Year One, you will receive a conditional offer of a degree place. Once you have successfully completed the International Foundation Year programme and, subject to satisfying the progression criteria as outlined, you can proceed directly to your degree at the University. The required progression grade will depend on the degree course you have chosen to study.

At the heart of the University and Liverpool

The International Study Centre provides international students with the very latest in learning resources and dedicated support.

All classrooms are fitted with interactive whiteboards, new computers and comfortable furniture, providing you with a professional learning experience. As well as 10 classrooms, there is a reception area where you can access advice and guidance, a student common room, an open access IT suite containing 20 fully networked PCs, plus free wireless internet access.

Located in the city’s ‘Knowledge Quarter’, the International Study Centre is very close to LJMU’s £37million Redmonds Building and the Aldham Robarts Library. Nearby are numerous places to eat, drink and relax, including several restaurants and bars on Liverpool’s award-winning Hope Street and Rodney Street, plus cafés in the University’s Art and Design Academy, Redmonds Building and the Liverpool Students’ Union Haigh Building. This winning combination of high quality teaching and social facilities provides the ideal opportunity for international students to achieve their very best.

Access to world-class facilities

All International Study Centre students can use LJMU’s state-of-the-art Libraries and Social Learning Zones, specialist teaching, computing and laboratory facilities and the major libraries in Liverpool. You will also have internet and email access free of charge. Plus free off-peak access to sporting facilities across the city.

A taste of University life

International Study Centre programmes will introduce you to the style of teaching and learning that you will experience when you progress onto your LJMU degree. You will learn via oneto- one tutorials, small seminars and as part of larger lecture groups, helping you become familiar with the teaching methods you will experience on your degree and ensuring you have an even greater chance of succeeding when you progress.

Personal support

Soon after starting your programme of study you will be encouraged to find out about your degree options. You will have the chance to meet tutors in the subjects that interest you and meet current students to learn from their experiences. Throughout your studies you will be supported by International Study Centre and LJMU staff to make the most of the learning and social opportunities in the University and Liverpool.
