LJMU undergraduate gives an inspiring talk about life as an international student

Harvey comes back to the Centre to share his story

Harvey, a former International Study Centre student, completed the International Year One in Business and progressed to a BA (Hons) Marketing degree at LJMU.

Returning to the International Study Centre, he gave an inspirational talk about his personal experiences. The first of its kind to be held at LJMU, Harvey’s talk attracted more than 40 current international students. He spoke about his time at the International Study Centre, his life at LJMU, and his plans after graduation.

“I really wanted them to benefit from my talk and not to miss any opportunities at LJMU.”

Harvey explained how important it is to make the most of everything the International Study Centre has to offer. This includes meeting new people, discovering new cultures, and balancing your studies with extra-curricular activities.

He discussed the typical concerns that many new students have, such as homesickness, struggling with the language and adjusting to a new education system. He explained how important it is to go outside your comfort zone and said: “LJMU is a very good university with excellent and very helpful staff and professors.” For Harvey, his experiences at the International Study Centre helped to unleash new strengths in his character.

When he completed the International Year One, Harvey progressed to his degree at LJMU. Today, he loves living and learning in Liverpool – one of the UK’s most affordable and vibrant cities.

Like all students at the International Study Centre and LJMU, Harvey has been involved in CareerAhead and CareerSmart. These dedicated development services help develop your employability skills and make sure you are ready for a career when you graduate.

Looking ahead in the future, Harvey plans to stay in the UK after he graduates from LJMU and build his career here before returning home in Egypt. He said: “It would boost my CV and work opportunities if I have experience from working in the UK.”
