International Study Centre

International Year One

Designed to equip you for entry on to the second year of an undergraduate degree

What is the International Year One?

The International Year One is a pathway programme equivalent to the first year of undergraduate study. Upon successful completion of the programme, and achievement of the required grades, you can progress to the second year of your undergraduate degree at LJMU.

Who is this programme for?

The International Year One is perfect if you need some extra support with academic, study and English language skills but want to complete your undergraduate degree in three years.

Subject routes

We offer two subject routes so you can progress to your undergraduate degree with the right skillset. You can choose between two pathways: Business or Engineering. Both pathways have a selection of core modules related to your academic subject, and optional modules that will allow you to specialise your learning.

A supportive environment

The programme allows you to familiarise yourself with UK university-style teaching, in a safe, international environment. Our expert faculty at the International Study Centre will always be on hand to help you.

Assessing your progress

Throughout your International Year One, we will assess your progress to make sure you are on track to successfully complete your programme, and progress to LJMU with all the skills you need to succeed.

Combined visa

Save time and money, and experience a seamless transition to undergraduate success, by studying our International Year One course and the remainder of your degree with one visa.

Joining with a combined visa means that you will benefit from:

  • Just one visa required for the whole length of your study
  • Alternatives to Academic IELTS for UKVI can be used to join the International Year One programme
  • No need for an additional IELTS test before joining your undergraduate degree
  • No visa requirement to return home between the courses
  • Work up to 20 hours per week

The combined visa is also a great option for students who have exceeded their two years of pre-degree study in the UK.
