Pathway to university
The International Study Centre is your route to success at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate pathway programmes to get the most from your degree. Each of our university pathways has different entry requirements so that you get the level of teaching you need.

How do university preparation programmes work?
A university preparation programme allows you to develop the required subject knowledge, study skills, and English language level to meet the entry requirements for your chosen degree at university. Once you successfully complete your programme at LJMU International Study Centre and achieve the required grades, you can progress to a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University. 89% of students who completed their pathway programme at the International Study Centre were eligible to progress to a degree course at Liverpool John Moores University in 2024.
International Foundation Year
A one-year preparatory course designed to help you to succeed once you progress to study at LJMU. Study with other international students and progress to an undergraduate degree at LJMU.
Extended International Foundation Year
This programme is specifically designed to meet the needs of international students — allowing additional time for you to develop the skills you need for undergraduate study
International Year One
Get the academic, language and career support you need to start your degree with confidence and progress to year two of your undergraduate degree at Liverpool John Moores University. This one-year programme helps you adjust to studying in the UK while building valuable skills for your future.
Pre-Masters Programme
A one-semester preparatory course designed to improve your English and practice the academic skills required for successful postgraduate study. Progress to your chosen Masters programme at LJMU.
