International Study Centre

Pre-Masters Programme

Designed to improve the skills required for successful postgraduate study.

Who is this programme for?

The Pre-Masters Programme is a fast-track programme, designed for students who would like to gain the specialist skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their Masters degree at Liverpool John Moores University.

You will build on the knowledge gained in your undergraduate studies, whilst developing your practical English language abilities, as well as study and research skills. You will develop a greater depth of knowledge in your area of study through classes designed specifically for international students. These will be based on study and careers skills, as well as subject specific modules, which prepare you for your chosen Masters degree at Liverpool John Moores University.

Why should I study a Masters?

  • Further develop the knowledge you gained during undergraduate study
  • Boost your career prospects by building on your academic experience
  • Develop your English language skills in the heart of the UK
  • Network with others in your field
  • Learn a new subject and change your career

What can I study?

When you apply to the International Study Centre, you will choose between two pathways - Business, Management and Law, or Engineering and Computing. Upon acceptance to the Pre-Masters Programme, you will also receive a conditional offer to study a Masters degree at Liverpool John Moores University after successful completion of your Pre-Masters.

  2. No need for IELTS for UKVI to join the Pre-masters programme*
  3. No need for an additional IELTS test before starting your Masters degree
  4. No visa requirement to return home between the courses.

*IELTS equivalent required

We understand you may face disruption in receiving your final academic results and English language test in 2020. We have therefore introduced the following changes so that you can start your journey and we will help you get to where you want to be.

For academic results we will take into account your individual circumstances when assessing academic achievement. For further information about this, please contact your Student Enrolment Advisor or make an online enquiry, or contact your local agent.

For courses starting this academic year (2020/21), if you are starting virtually from your home country, we have expanded the list of English tests we will accept for entry to programmes at Liverpool John Moores University International Study Centre. Find out more here.

If you are studying the Pre-Masters, if you provided a SELT equivalent to start virtually, you will not need to submit a SELT. Find out more on the SELT equivalent tests accepted here.

If you do not meet the English language requirements for your pathway programme, you can join an English language preparation course first.

To progress to your undergraduate or postgraduate degree, you will be required to successfully complete your pathway programme and achieve the required grades.
